Celtics *4

Dan writes about "your Celtics" again* today. He says historically Game 7s are supposed to be a great affair but that the fact that today's game 7 is even happening is an embarrassment to us all. The mighty Celtics are vulnerable and other teams watching will be emboldened by the success of the Hawks if the Celtics are fortunate enough to advance. (*This is a classic parenting line. When one of my kids does something bad, my wife says "Look at what YOUR daughter just did.")

This is the 4th Shaughnessy column of the past five which essentially says the same thing. The Celtics are worthy of criticism and I won't debate that (Note to OB: I dont care if Shaughnessy doesnt "root root root" for the home team.) What continues to grate on me is his journalistic laziness. This column, of and in itself, is fair enough. Yet, when it folllows three others that have attacked from the same angle, it is absolutely absurd that he can get away with it.

It is almost as if Shaughnessy takes these losses as a personal affront. Perhaps he is the one writing from Mom's basement? And yes, the Celtics are not playing well. But how about a modicum of credit for the Hawks? They have some excellent young talent that seems to be coming together at the right time. Given that, is it even conceivable that their record belies their talent to some degree? I agree wholeheartedly that the Celtics should never be in this position but giving the Hawks any credit no matter how well deserved would undermine Shaughnessy's premise and so he just can't do it.

Isn't that strange! Less than 24 hours after OB posts:

"Championship basketball teams shouldn't be taken to a game seven against the worst seed. Ever...The series has been a disappointment even if it ends in victory."

Dan writes:

"Today is a Game 7 embarrassment. It is a Game 7 that was never supposed to happen.

Hey Dan! A bit of advice: when Stephen A. Smith is agreeing with you, you should rethink your position.

Again he uses the red herring of the Hawks' road record to disparage the Hawks overall.

Intellectually dishonest and lazy. Dan will do anything to avoid tackling an issue. It's too much work for him to discuss perhaps why the Hawks are giving the Celtics trouble and whether it is something to worry about going forward.

Really, the "angle" here is, if the Celtics move on, what's the difference? I mean seriously, let's say they move on, win the next series, and win the next one after that, and get to the Finals. Is anyone going to really care about what they did in the first round? Do you get extra "points" for not losing a game in round 1? I seem to remember the Colorado Rockies sweeping the NLCS and waiting around for a while then getting stomped by the Red Sox in 4 in the WS. It's all relative to what's going on. This is a "match-up" problem for Boston. That's why it's difficult. I also have a theory about fouls and home court as evidenced by a +20 winning margin in Boston, but somehow, they lose to a team that can't compete in Boston? But none of that is explored because Dan the Douche is mad and he's going to tell us. Douche bag.

Shank loves the word embarrassment....I think your right,HE is the one writing from his basement.....I love my sports but I don't think I've ever been "embarrassed" by anything they've done....why should I?...hell, I'm not the one playing...but for some reason Shank just LOVES telling us we should be "embarrassed"....lol....god, what a clown

An aging team ought not to play any more games in the playoffs than it needs to play.

Not sure what dbvader's point is concerning the fact that Shaughnessy and I both take note of the obvious. Or maybe I should say obvious to people in the real world.

Keep staying obtuse Bruce.

I'm not trying to speak for dbvader, but perhaps 'major sports columnists' shouldn't be in the habit of stating the obvious?

Aren't 'major sports columnists' paid for insight beyond the obvious ones?

Should 'major sports columnists' build the main pillar of a column around stating the obvious?

Should 'major sports columnists' basically rewrite the same column four times in the same week?

Look, Screamin A Smith is a notorious New York homer fan. So any excuse to get the Yankees out of "Greatest Collapse in Sports HIstory" purgatory, he'll take. Shank equally hates the Sox for winning the WS, so he figures that if the Celts lose, than it takes luster off the Sox whom he hates. This article now makes sense to me. Unfortunately for 3-2 Sr, it was over at the National Anthem.

OB:

I'm not nearly as erudite as you, but I'll give it my best shot:

Dan's a lazy, self-absorbed piece of shit.
And you're an arrogant fuck.

Okay? Thanks, bunky!

Your pal,

Timmy
