Except that the good folks at ESPN report the Sox have a better than 1 in 5 chance of making the playoffs, which is superior to two of the teams ahead of them in the standings in their own division. All those teams don't have to lose every day. If they play .500 ball and the Red Sox play .550 ball, the Red Sox will be in. That doesn't sound like the math doesn't work. That sounds like they just need to go on a hot streak.
