Two for the Road

Once again, Dan shows he can write a relevant and effective column with this March 12th piece about the Massachusetts Bay Community College men's basketball team and its foray into the upper stratosphere of the JUCO playoffs.

I must duly note that, with the preponderance of quotes the column virtually wrote itself, complementing its formatting.

It truly is a shame that he'll no doubt momentarily return to hack status, with the tacit approval of his Globe editors. Having spent much of my adult life in news and sports reporting I can attest that editors who actually improve your writing are few and far between. Most either ignore the problems posed in one's stories and columns, or simply butcher them.

Of course he can write good columns; apparently he just needs a lot of rest in between them...

as I just wrote in the previous post. Shank isn't too bad when he writes about high school or junior college sports. They should keep him on that beat. He just can't handle writing about pro sports....I don't know if it's a jealousy thing or what.

As long as his subjects make less money than him he seems OK.

He does do a good job with HS sport but why oh why does everything have to lead back to the Red Sox - even a story about high school basketball?
