It's a good look at underdog Harvard's push to tie the game in the final seconds after giving up a 2-0 lead, filled in with some context and interesting anecdotes.
This phrase struck me as odd:
That's why it was such a surprise when the Johnnies led, 2-0,
I had to look up the Johnnies reference. I found two: A Michael Medved column from June; and an excerpt from the 1952 Yale yearbook.

I feel very bad for Shaughnessy...trapped as he is in a dying industry. His forays into 'TV Land' are rife with embarrassing looks and sounds; he is neither appealing to look at nor listen to. The channel gets switched in a nanosecond if I see Shaughnessy warbling in that drone of his. Too many of the 'Old Media Hacks' are desperately trying to climb aboard the 'new media' train...Massarotti and Mike Adams, to name two more. They make a very sorry indictment for themselves and their industry. And you can just see how seething mad they are all the time; as though they've been 'wronged.' But, back to Shaughnessy: I wish he would just evaporate.
He's trying to be cute stretching the John Harvard name to the Johnnies.
