Sunshine and Bliss on Yawkey Way

Dan is getting the word out: Everybody in the Red Sox front office is getting along just fine.

Dan is just like a poodle on Lucchino's leash. He barks when Larry tells hims to and sits when told. No "Theo and his minions" or snide remarks about age and how Theo owes everything to Lucchino in this article. I guess Lucchino wants to make sure that this contract renewal goes smoother than the last one.

All were drafted by Theo and the Minions.

Praising Theo whilst taking a cheap shot at him (dog bites Man, I know...)?

Would it kill Dan to say that Theo surrounds himself with decent people and acknowledge everyone's contributions?

I would point out to the people who moan and complain that Shaughnessy doesn't ask enough questions at the love-fests that pass for sports press conferences that he beat the city on a rather significant story.

We will now pause for the commentary that he was spoon-fed by someone or other in the organization. Which begs the question of why someone else in the organization didn't leak it to another reporter or another media outlet

Beat the city. The GM plans to re-sign a contract. Big scoop there.

This piece is all-too-typical CHB:

2003: Theo is god!

2005: Theo is the devil!

2008: Theo is god!

His column should go under the name Flipflopper's Delight.

OB,
Maybe he got the scoop because he Lucchino hands out favors to the good boys and girls in the press corp.

Opening paragraph:

"In stealth fashion, the Red Sox have been negotiating with Theo Epstein and are close to a deal that would lock up the star general manager for several years.

Good idea. Theo is having a better summer than the Wasilla, Alaska, Chamber of Commerce. He's hotter than Paul Pierce was in the Finals."

Shank is really stretching for the analogies these days, this one was just plain stupid.

You're kidding, right? "Beat the city."
That's hysterical, dude!!! Keep 'em coming!!!

Dan has been using the Minions moniker for years and it bothers me more and more every time he does it. It's disrespectful and lazy. He can't be bothered to find out their names or what they do, so he just lumps them all together into one nondescript pile of sycophantism. This isn't Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas.

I think it was the great modern philosopher, Vito Corleone, who said: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

OB:

'Course you know already, 'cause you a weinie, but you ain't stupid. Arrogant and self-impressed, but not stupid.

Times owns Sox. Times owns Globe. Larry works for Sox. Shank works for Globe.
No leak to 'nother media outlet 'cause Times/Sox don't own 'nother one. qtplg

Shank didn't beat squat, 'cept maybe his own junk. Knowhattamean, bunky?

Timmy

Timmy, your ramblings are pretty funny, and your conspiracy theories even funnier. I'd love to hear your brilliant theory as to why if the story was leaked, rather than reported, it wasn't leaked to someone other than Shaughnessy if there are people in the organization who so don't like Shaughnessy and the Globe has a fair-sized bundle of sportswriters available to steal his thunder. I'm looking forward to hearing the machinations of how a certain executive doesn't like Shaughnessy so he gets some sort of advantage by handing him a pretty decent scoop and how this squares with the Shaugnessy-wants-to-drive-Theo-to-the-cornfield episode of the Twilight Zone that was the rage of the conspiracy crowd not so long ago.

And of course, DB, you are right as usual, it doesn't make any difference who the general manager (or equivalent) is, even if he's won two of four World Series. George Sauer Sr or Scott Pioli; Rick Pitino or Red Auerbach; Lynn Patrick or Milt Schmidt; Pinky Higgins or Theo Epstein. Doesn't matter.

Does it?

Timmy, your ramblings are pretty funny,

That is hilarious coming from OB. It takes only one person to like CHB to leak the story and that one person is Lucchino. How hard is that for you to grasp? Lucky leaked the story in 2005 and Lucky leaked the story now because he knows Shank is an obedient servant.

And of course, DB, you are right as usual, it doesn't make any difference who the general manager (or equivalent) is, even if he's won two of four World Series.

When was anything close to this claim floated?

It wasn't. This is another in a long, long line of OB strawman arguments. Quite boring, actually...

...wow...Objectivebruce, you should really seek counseling...all this man-love you have for Shank is somewhat disturbing

Geez, I've been out of the loop. Theo signing a contract is IMPORTANT news?

To who, the fans that are anticipating a team push towards a playoff run?

Big News would be a revelation on management startegies used in team makeup or breakup. That would be big scoop!

Theo signs new contract - file under Who Cares!

Tell us what happens between the lines ... that is where the drama is. Tell us us about the deals struck in the "smoke-filled room" ... that is where the gamble is!

Otherwise the Globe Scooping Up Gorilla Poop is as bad as the Enquirer.

Pinky Higgins?

You magnificent Googlin' son of a bitch, you!

Your pal,

Timmy

Thank you Timmy!

However, please remember, everyone isn't as uninformed as you, so sometimes we actually know stuff and don't have to Google it!!

Try it!!!

As for those who want to discredit Shaughnessy by saying signing the GM isn't important, go take a look at the first days of this blog and how much hatred for the columnist was fermented because he wrote a column critical of young Theo when the lad was the wunderchild of local sports.

The Minions is actually a pretty apt identifier, irrespective of the childish attempts to put it down. Epstein, Henry, Werner and Lucchino talk endlessly about the "baseball operations people," all of whom are clearly disciples of Epstein and who clearly perform specific role in the Epstein baseball administration. The reference works and works well.

mike_b1 said...

Yes, OB, about that column...that was the one where The CHB tried to make the case that Lucchino, not Epstein, was the real brains behind the operation.

I won't hold my breath for the revision.

Since you're the only one who mentions the subject in this thread, I'm hard pressed to see how this is relevant.
