Shaughnessy previews the Patriots-Colts match up for tonight and says the game lacks the thrill/ anticipation/build-up of previous match-ups between the teams. It is a fair enough article although Shaughnessy can't seem to let go some of his banal conventions.
Today we have: "Tonight we have the Bradyless Patriots against the sub.-500 Colts in Lucas Oil (Can Boyd) Stadium." This follows recent columns in which he has said things like, "He cried me a Doc Rivers." or how about, "Little doubt they'd be better off if they were sittin' by the dock of Tampa Bay."? Or this one, "Fenway, Big A, Jamaica Way, Blue Jay Way, Sittin'-on-the-dock-of-the-bay Way. " Or how about, "He was caught playing a little too deep (by the dock of the Bay)" All gems from the last month.
Dan, this is not funny! Stop it now! You are not Chris Berman! (And let's all be thankful the Patriots are not playing the Bucaneers this weekend.)

typical sportswriter babble....the "thrill is gone" to Shank because he isn't a fan. As a Patriot fan, I'm still fired up about this game. I like the way the Pats are scrapping along. Given their injury situation I think it would be a helluva accomplishment to beat the Colts tonight.
Of course to the simple-minded Shank the thrill is gone because both teams aren't "undefeated"....Shank is one Godawful sportswriter.
When you combine marginal writing talent with a venal, vindictive personality and add a few dashes of bitterness, jealousy, and good old fashioned provincial myopia, cool stuff happens!
Your pal,
Timmy
Shank makes the same mistake all the other writers are making - he's treating Manning as if he's almost unstoppable and ignoring that the weaknesses in his game (indecision, poor throwing, inability to win big games) have been on display all season; the Colts didn't "concede" the AFC outh, Shank, they rallied against the Jaguars and then lost anyway, then got ground down at the end by the Titans - in other words, they're getting beaten. He mentions they could be 1-6 but blames it on their run game when it's actually because the Colts are losing in the trenches and Manning's game is not working.
Come on, Shank.
Timmy,

You are the balls!!!!

You know, Berman isn't funny either -- hasn't been since, like, the early 90s -- so isn't saying Shank is no Berman...a compliment?
