Curt Schilling misses out on Hall of Fame, but he’ll get in next year… is then quickly doused with a few splashes of negativity:
If you love the Red Sox and love Curt Schilling, the good news is that Schill is getting into the Hall of Fame one year from now.The charge of 'bogus' is, of course, absolute rubbish. Shank is well aware that the printed word, even when emanating from the fetid swamps of the area formerly known as 135 Morrisey Boulevard, carry weight and carry the message as far as it will go. Shank has printed enough negative columns about Curt Schilling that they have a certain momentum that carries on, even to this day. Not to mention that time Shank wanted Schilling thrown in jail because Schilling's software company went tits up after a $75 million loan guarantee from the state of Rhode Island. And Shank definitely didn't like it when Schilling described Shank as 'the second most bitter human I've ever known'. Thus, the battle lines have been drawn for years.
As long as he does not do something incredibly stupid.
Take the man’s phone away immediately. Bar him from any form of social media over the next 12 months. Schill is officially on the threshold of baseball immortality. Results of the 2020 election demonstrate that Schilling is a lock for 2021 as long as he doesn’t make it impossible for voters to honor him.
...
Schill’s case for the Hall is complex. The myth of him not getting into Cooperstown — a fable Schilling prefers — is that he is being denied because of his “political opinions.’’
Bogus. Schill’s latter-day, off-the-rails rants and social media posts are not singularly what has kept him out. He is simply not a slam-dunk Hall candidate.
Shank then goes on to make a case that, compared to certain other pitchers, Schilling simply doesn't stack up. Since that part of the column's on much better ground, and perhaps even compelling, do you really need to mention Schilling's political opinion? You bet your ass you do, if you work for the Boston Globe and especially if you've been at war with the other guy for over a decade now.

Schilling declared war the night of game 6 of the ALCS after that fraud called the sox "A pack of frauds." Schill said and I quote "There is a scribe in this town that has profited off the pain of this team and doesn't have the balls to write the true article about this team and if he had the balls he would understand how special this team is." I was so proud of Schill that day cuz he put that fraud in his place
It's crazy that Schilling is still not in the HOF at this point. I agree that he's not a "slam dunk," but it is complete and utter BS to suggest that his off-the-field "antics" aren't part of the reason he is still not an inductee. Three teams celebrated World Series championships with him on the roster (and there was nearly a fourth). The numbers are comparable to Mike Mussina and others. So what other reason is there?
He is a trump kin and that debacle in Rhode island that's why
More recently, I think the 'Rope. Tree. Journalist.' picture he posted a year or two ago was both a) a big 'fuck you' to these same 'journalists' that were going to cast ballots for him and b) the stupidest thing he ever posted. What on earth are you doing giving that kind of ammunition out to people who decide your HOF fate? I don't get it.
That said, Shank's right about this part - if he lays low he's likely to get in.
Jason - thanks for that originating point on the whole Shank / Schilling brouhaha.
Yw roger. I'll never forget that night he said that to nesn. Dan's response was classic his face was tomato can red. His response was and I quote "They are a pack of frauds no matter what. I stand by that quote. I'll see you after that the game Curt." Dan is a fraud
