Hype Not Believed

Shank goes out on a limb today:

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — What would be sweeter than beating the Jets today?

The Jets have it coming. They’ve been talking trash for months, and now the larger forces are coming back to bite them in the glutes.

...

New England won eight of the last nine games it played against the Jets in Giants Stadium. Most of those games were played in the glare of massive media hype — back in the days when neutral fans rooted for the Jets to beat the blue meanies from New England.

Not now. Against the Jets today, the Patriots are America’s Team.
America's Team? Give me a break. What Shank's doing is obvious - if the Patriots win, he can pat himself on the back. If they lose (or tie), he can continue shitting on them for another week. Disingenuous to the extreme.

Roger,

I will not read Shank's article but you are absolutely correct in stating:

"What Shank's doing is obvious - if the Patriots win, he can pat himself on the back." = "Disingenuous to the extreme"

Who the heck is the audience that this guy Shank communicates to?

Does he think we are all morons?

We will be entertained by two teams of athletes giving their all.

What more is needed? Surely the Shank's commentary adds no value!

As soon as I saw the lead graph, I said to myself, "Eff. Pats are going to lose today."

Thanks, Shank.

The Curse Of Shank-erparel hit again. Now we can look forward to Shank's column about how it's time to take the control out of Belichick's hands and force on him an outside coordinator or force on him players who are ostensibly better than what he has even if they can't execute even in theory or some such nonsense that blames him instead of the players (specifically Brady) for bad execution in the second half.
