The Walking Wounded

Shank slowly returns his focus to the Boston Red Sox this week, but not to bore us about 'run prevention'. Instead he chronicles the many injuries endured by the Red Sox this season, the most recent of which was to Dustin Pedroia on Friday night, with a broken foot. Shank needs to remind us that Dustin is short ('half-pint', 'diminutive') and it juts out in a most obnoxious manner.

If you're looking for some poor writing, the first article may be more to your liking:

For three bone-cracking nights and days the Red Sox were sittin’ by the dock of Sick Bay.

...

Friday night it was Pedroia flopping in the dirt around home plate like a salmon on dry land...

...

Saturday it was Buchholz pulling up short like a wounded deer...

...

It was a dark and stormy night...
I threw that last one in there, but you get the idea.

I'm pretty sure this is the reason we haven't had any Sox bashing articles from Shank over the past two months:

Overall, the Sox are 42-22 since April 20, the best record in baseball during that stretch.

Dopey Dan got a two-fer out of the source material by filing an SI story that basically just plowed the same ground.

He did however toss in a "Theo and his minions" reference into the SI piece.

Actually, hopefully it will help the national audience become as sick of this butt nugget as we are....
