Shaughnessy columns are pretty straight forward. It should be noted, however, that this is Shaughnessy's fourth straight article about the Bruins and everyone of them contains some reference to the Red Sox. Why he feels the need to do this, I don't know. There is a particularly odd one:
This young man [Kessel] works inside a cone of silence. It's easier getting Bartolo Colon to talk. What? Colon has been with the Red Sox for a month and Shaughnessy is already commenting on his silence with the media? Maybe he has to bring up Colon because he has long since given up hope that any other established Red Sox will talk to him?
Yet again, he gets in a gratuitous shot at Belichick:
When he [Kessel] does speak, he slips into cliché-riddled bits right out of the Bill Belichick media playbook.
Turn on ESPN and you will get cliche' after cliche' from one athlete to the next but Shank feels compelled to call out Belichick as the standard-bearer for cliche'-speak? Belichick is not worse than any other coach or player but Shaughnessy can never just let it seem to go.
Dan has been studying up on the Bruins.
ReplyDeleteA pair of good pieces that show some knowledge, unlike the pieces earlier this week.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I was nitpicking today and I neglected to give Shaughnessy credit because overall, they were pretty good articles.
I just wish Shank would leave town...not that I read him but I would still like to see him leave town and take "objective Bruce" with him
ReplyDeleteAs long as people higher and higher up the totem pole take the buyouts, there is hope. It is indeed a joy to see continued stories about the financial misery at the NYT and ugly step-child Boston Globe. The metaphor is more than apt, because the Times adopted rather than give birth to the Globe, and the Globe IS ugly whether you speak about their people or their politics.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of people who absoltely suck at the Globe, what about Kevin Paul DuPont? He is their hockey "expert" (I put it in quotes because he knows nothing about hockey and like most at the Globe is smug and arrogant in addition to being ignorant), yet I see nothing from him yesterday OR today. So, nothing following the game 6 and leading up to game 7, in the first spring where it is EXCITING to be a Bruins fan in how many years???? Great work you lazy, useless bag of cowflop.
ReplyDeleteSo how is it that Shank could write a better article than me or anyone who watched Game 7 on TV tonight when he is in LA this week doing spots on "Rome is Burning"... Boy, this journalism thing is great!
ReplyDeleteShank ripping Belichick for cliche-speak is two-face writing squared. Shank, you are not owed anything from Belichick; please stop assuming otherwise.

ReplyDeleteLooks like you were on the mark when you wrote that Dan might very well be worn out by writing two stories in a single day. If the bozo ever tried to work at a small daily, he'd learn how to write three, four or more articles a DAY ... day after day after day.

ReplyDeleteI have noticed with Shaughnessy that he will do a run of columns for a week (usually mailing them in) and then be off for days. Perhaps he has some agreement with his management but wouldnt it be nice to have a job where you can take one week a month off? What a life he leads
KPD was out due to family issues. He was back at New England Hockey, the radio show he does on 890.
ReplyDeleteIs Dan on sabbatical now? Those two columns must've taken all the piss out of him...
ReplyDeleteNYT bond rating is BBB...one mere baby step above JUNK rating. And that would be reserved for the Boston Globe.
