Once more, Dan feels the need to tell us what an arduous undertaking it has been to cover the Red Sox as they have traveled to Japan and Los Angeles. This is the first sentence:
"Yesterday was odyssey day No. 12, the final day in southern California.
Shut the hell up. Nobody cares.
I hope his boss takes Dan's expense report and shoves up it his...
ReplyDeleteWhat a haughty, elite sports hack Shaughnessy is. The only reason he doesn't wear a bow-tie is because he doesn't know how to tie one. And for our little friend, ObtuseBruce, the bow-tie reference mimics Mr. Bow-tie himself, Thomas Oliphant...Liberal elite Globie emeritus.
You wanna know what's really arduous? Reading the same shit over and over and over...
ReplyDeleteIt's great. Dan complains about how hard this trip has been, and he has a dead movie star watching the LA Dodgers in 1958. His lack of effort is obvious.
ReplyDeleteThis my absolute favorite blog on the internet. I actually used to like CHB a little bit but the stuff you guys point out is all so true... He does have a few good columns and you guys are good about giving him credit for that, but the majority of his stuff is really repetitive. I hate how he always writes about stuff from 1967
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 5:33,
ReplyDeleteAssuming that your post is not an April Fools Joke, are you female and single?
I have been doing this blog for over a year and would like to see some return.
anon 5:33 - thanks for the note.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks also to the posters who make it a fun experience as well
Dan is a douche. I think that whenever anyone writes something about him, this is how it should start. That said, who gives a shit about the length of the trip? If it's so hard, Dan, then just stay at home. Did he say anything new? Does he ever? And can you imagine the Red Sox players when they see him. Varitek: Look. It's Dan the Douche. Manny: Mira! El Doucho! Dice-K: Douche-San. Papi: Sunuvabeeeetch! It's the Douch!!
ReplyDeleteI heard that Mrs. Shaughnessy (aka Jackie Mac) is taking the Globe buyout. The misery at The Globe is fun to watch. I'm waiting for Shaughnessy's introspective column about how 'things were better in the old days.' Maybe it'll be a book; perhaps Shaughnessy went with Deval to NYC to negotiate his own book deal.
ReplyDeleteChris - I'll try to confirm that for you.

ReplyDeleteCheck bostonsportsmedia. It is breaking news that she is leaving. They left a very slight opening for the possibility that Shank might go too
Roger - anxious to hear what info you can get

Rumor has it Jackie MacMullan has taken a buy out from the Boston Globe , can we possibly get the Globe to offer Shank one?
ReplyDeleteSo, Jackie Mac is out. Where's OB? I thought things were all puppy dogs and humming birds over at the Glob (not a typo)...
ReplyDeleteMaybe the NY Times will sell it's 17% share of the Sox so we can get some unbiased and (yes) objective reporting on the team.
As long as there are haughty Liberal elites at The Globe, then I'll continue to cheer on their continued misery over on Morrissey Boulevard. In other words, forever.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Algore, for inventing the Internet. You single-handedly led to the ruin of one of your Liberal media allies.
Was Jackie MacMullen ever any better than Shank?
ReplyDeleteI never read much Jackie Mac for reasons I am not sure of. But when I read her, I never was annoyed. She seemed to be able to construct a coherent column with an actual thesis. Tell me the last time Shank put together a column that had a coherent thesis that wasn't a string of quotations. She seemed bland whenever she strayed outside of her specialty, though. Boring columns seemed her worst offense.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what dbvader said, Jackie Mac's columns were okay but not columns I would seek out to read like I used to for Gammons and now occasionally do for Edes. But she was professional, and never used her column to take out a vendetta against an athlete like Shank does.
ReplyDeleteApparently the situation is getting tough for the Globe's parent paper, the NYT. Just read that they bought out one of their big sports writers as well, Murray Chass.
