ST. LOUIS — He is the Bear in Winter. Still watching. Still working. Still bleeding Black and Gold. When you don't know jack shit about the series or even care about it, this is the result. This is not a knock on Harry Sinden, who was influential and successful, but it's such an obviously lazy and borrowed theme from Shank, and the column's saving grace is letting Sinden do all the talking.
Harry Sinden will be 87 in a few months and still reports to the Garden regularly, bouncing thoughts and ideas off Bruins president Cam Neely and general manager Don Sweeney.
“My official title is ‘Senior Adviser to the Owner,’ ’’ says Sinden when reached by phone. “But actually the only word that really applies in that title is the first one.

The Obligatory Harry Sinden Column
Using a lesser employed column template, Shank goes back a few years and lets us know the old Boston Bruins hand is still around.
"This is not a knock on Harry Sinden, who was influential and successful"
ReplyDeleteDisagree.
Harry quit coaching Bobby Orr at over money.
He made the career decision to go sell modular homes in Albany, Ny over coaching the greatest hockey player of all time at the peak of his powers.
When modular homes went bell up, Harry came back and refused to pay to get the talent here to win a cup.
He won ZERO as a GM and only one cup as a coach.
BUT, he returned the media's phone calls and filled their notebooks, hence the pass from Shank.
Looks like I overstated things just a bit; thanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteHarry Sinden won nothing in 40 years as a GM but Shank gives him a pass cuz he fills the notebook and takes his calls. Dave the GM for Sox he reminds us that he hasnt won in 40 years and kills him for it cuz he doesn't talk to him gee I wonder why. Dan is a fraud
