THis morning's dish certainly offers up a
plateful, doesn't it? I have to complete a training run and will not be able to post until late morning but wanted to get an entry out there for people to comment on. Have you had enough of Manny? Dan thinks you have....Stay tuned
Disclosure: I am a Manny apologist and a Shank hater, Having said that, Dan, once agin, comes through in the clutch.
ReplyDeleteAfter longtime enabler Terry Francona filled out a lineup card with Manny batting fourth, the Sox made an announcement that Manny could not play in the biggest game of the season.
On July 25, I wouldn't call it the biggest game of the season. It's a big series, but give me a break. And I think "enabler" is a tad absurd.
Former state treasurer Bob Crane happened by the EMC Club, pregame, and spoke for many fans when he said, "Manny's got to go. Enough's enough. Fans are finally sick of this guy."
So the former state treasurer is the voice of the fans?
The possibility exists that Manny truly has a sore right knee. No one can get inside the head of an athlete and evaluate game-readiness. If Manny's knee is killing him, there is no way for us to know, and we are wildly unfair to question his condition. I'm willing to take that chance. I don't believe him.
Of course not. Why would you?
Call me a cynic. Call me a nitwit.
You are a cynic and a nitwit.
It is despicable. And the front office and his teammates are burning. Off the record, of course.
Of course, because the same person that told Boozin' Bob that Manny was fined six figures and purposely took three pitches from Rivera told you this.
Manny's snit comes after he flattened 64-year-old traveling secretary Jack McCormick over a ticket allotment in Houston.
Flattened?
It comes after his giggle-fest when he played a popup into a triple while the Sox were being swept in Anaheim.
Funny, I remember seeing one of the Angels outfielders (Vlad?) do the EXACT same thing. No fuss made there.
Dan, go away. I hope the sinking ship known as the Globe doesn't pick up your option.
Bill's post is beyond absurd.
ReplyDeleteI can think of no bigger game through July 25 than the game played on July 25.
Francona has been making excuses for Rameriz for five years now, one excuse after another.
Bob Crane made a career out of understanding what people are saying and thinking.
There is no evidence of an injury to Rameriz' knee, and his problems seem to surface pretty late in the day. It's not prime facie, but a negative inference can be taken from his behavior.
Whether Lobel was mislead by a source, or whether such a source even existed in the first place is entirely irrelevant to Shaughnessy's reporting. It's pretty clear that the club is no longer excusing Rameriz' nonsense.
When one goes from the vertical to the horizontal, one has been flattened.
Misplays by members a team sweeping a series can be excused. Misplays by members of a team being swept cannot. Didn't your father teach you anything?
The Globe sold more than 350,000 newspapers today. So much for sinking.
Ramirez. Sometimes I type faster than I spell.
ReplyDeleteThe Globe sold more than 350,000 newspapers today. So much for sinking.
ReplyDelete1) Since the day's not over yet, how could you possibly know that? You have some sort of hot feed into their numbers, or are you just making it up?
2) So, on average, 350,000 in sales represents a drop in circulation by 10+% from two years ago.
Great job, guys...
Bill's post is beyond absurd.
ReplyDeleteIf that's not the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.
I can think of no bigger game through July 25 than the game played on July 25.
And the most important game played through July 26 will be the game played ON July 26. The last time I checked, pennants weren't decided in July.
Francona has been making excuses for Rameriz for five years now, one excuse after another.
Much like you have been making excuses for Shank's piss-poor writing.
Bob Crane made a career out of understanding what people are saying and thinking.
Really? He has no idea what I am saying or thinking.
There is no evidence of an injury to Rameriz' knee, and his problems seem to surface pretty late in the day. It's not prime facie, but a negative inference can be taken from his behavior.
Last time I checked he was out of the lineup Wednesday, too. But, let the conspiracy theories roll!
Whether Lobel was mislead by a source, or whether such a source even existed in the first place is entirely irrelevant to Shaughnessy's reporting. It's pretty clear that the club is no longer excusing Rameriz' nonsense.
Of course it's relevant because he took it and ran with it, too.

When one goes from the vertical to the horizontal, one has been flattened.
Wow. Got me there. I know the meaning, dipshit. That's the first time I have ever seen the word "flattened" to describe the incident. But, whatever.
Misplays by members a team sweeping a series can be excused. Misplays by members of a team being swept cannot. Didn't your father teach you anything?
Not quite sure what my father did or didn't teach me is relevant to anything and would appreciate members of my family being left out of the discussion. At the time the error was committed:
http://stats.boston.com/mlb/gameview.asp?gamecode=280720103
"Top of 7:
Red Sox seventh. Lowrie flied out to center fielder Hunter. Crisp walked. Cash struck out. Crisp stole second. Ellsbury safe on Guerrero's error, Crisp scored. Pedroia singled to left, Ellsbury to third. Oliver pitching. Drew struck out.
Runs: 1, Hits: 1"
it gave the Sox a 3-2 lead, so at the time they were not being swept as it gave them the lead. Also, Manny's gaffe was on Friday; the first game of the series.
The Globe sold more than 350,000 newspapers today. So much for sinking.
You can't type that with a straight face. First, at 12:45 p.m., EDT, you have no idea what the number of papers sold was. Second, the Globe is taking on water. It is a known fact. A higher-up at the Globe who is a casual acquaintance told me this. Why do you think the paper has cut pages left and right? It's a cost-cutting measure.
Good grief — are we still hung up on newspaper circulation? Boston.com gets more than 4 million unique visitors a month. That's considerably more relevant than the decline of an obsolete delivery system.
ReplyDeleteBoston.com gets more than 4 million unique visitors a month. That's considerably more relevant than the decline of an obsolete delivery system.
ReplyDeleteIf boston.com generated revenue significant enough to offset losses with the dead tree part of its' business, you'd have a point.
Roger: No, because your comment implies that the Globe's print circulation is declining because fewer people want to read it. You were not making an observation about revenue. The Globe's business problems are part of a different question.
ReplyDeleteThe ever absurd Bill suggests that pennants aren't decided in July.
ReplyDeleteGuess I missed the rule change that discounted head-to-head games in July against your closest rival for a playoff spot.
As for Mr. Crane, he doesn't need to know what your specific thoughts are, Billy. All he ever needed was fifty percent plus one. (Although there was the legend about the race in Brighton where someone ran on stickers and there had to be a recount, so Crane arranged to have the ballots stored in a locked room in a church, and arranged to have the heat turned up so all the stickers fell off the ballots)
And no, Lobel's sources do not define Shaughnessy's sources, especially when Shaughnessy presents a)a denial of Lobel's claim and b) writes of another reporter's contrary story.
Wow. "dipshit". Such command of the English language.
I also seem to have missed the rule change that attaches greater relevance to losing the first game of a series than to two subsequent losses. Guess that lets Bobby Sprowl off the hook (look him up).
Yeah, the Globe isn't selling as much advertising as it used to and circulation is down. But every day this week and every day next week they'll sell in the neighborhood of 350,000 newspapers. They sell half a million on Sunday. It's still the single most authoritative news organization in New England, despite the fervent dream of the outnumbered right-wing zealots.
"all the team does is win World Series." Wow. I missed another rule change, the one that awarded the 2005 and 2006 titles to Boston.
I love it when Mike runs out of ammunition and gets personal. Keep it coming, son.
And I love it when you go off on a player or coaches for their on-field performance, and then when they win you find reason to upbraid them for their (perceived) attitude or other personality defects.
ReplyDeleteThey won two World Series, with Manny playing dominant roles in each. So what do you want? A team that wins? Or a team of perfect gentlemen that don't win? Give me the team that wins. I couldn't care less about the rest of the stuff.
And I also note how you save your venom for the black and Hispanic players. Oh, and the outspoken Republican, Curt Schilling. Just like a certain Globe sportswriter.
You love Dan, yet all he does is personal attacks. You're a complete and utter hypocrite, Mrs. Shaughnessy.
You were not making an observation about revenue. The Globe's business problems are part of a different question.
ReplyDeletePoint taken.
Haven't been here for a while. Looks like Bruce has upped his booze intake to qualify for Shaughnessy status...typing so fast he mispelled Ramirez three times in a single post? Or maybe it was because his ethnocentric keyboard didn't properly affix the accent over the "i" that he obviously intended. Good thing he sticks to topic of people's fathers and doesn't get personal when he knows that the Irish-American circle jerk that plagued Boston for so long is finally petering out and even Bob Crane can't help him get a job at this late date.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Feel free to stop me and say hello when you see me wearing my jersey featuring the name of my boyhood Sox idol.
ReplyDeleteFelix Mantilla.
Like Manny, dope. The man who gives you/your husband nightmares.
ReplyDeleteOr Pedro Martinez. Or Jose Offerman. Or Julio Lugo. Or Jim Rice. Or Oil Can Boyd. Or Ellis Burks. Or Julian Tavarez...
Citations please. Otherwise, we'll just mark you down -- again -- as talking through your hat, and in pretty vile fashion.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you have no idea as to my ethnicity, now do you?
Bruce, Bruce, Bruce: Of course I know your ethnicity. Irish American, just like The CHB.
ReplyDeleteAs for citations, just look through the archives of this site, my curly haired friend. They are everywhere, particularly in the Dan-isms.
OB:
ReplyDeleteMan, the way you call Bill, Billy is so damn cutting!
You one mean dude, Brucie!
Your pal,
Timmy
P.S.: Is Douchie a word?
Mike's ignorance is amazing. Wrong on the ethnicity.
ReplyDeleteLet's go. Back up your claim that "you save your venom for the black and Hispanic players."
You won't because you can't, and you don't have the integrity to even try.
OB:
ReplyDeleteIf I were to guess, I'd say your ethnicity is Fuckface.
Am I right?
Your pal,
Timmy
Bruce/Mrs. S:
ReplyDeleteGoogle: The CHB Dan-isms.
You'll find everything you're looking for. Heck, you even commented on those strings.
