The Road is Paved With Hot Issues

and boring commentary.

Dan (again) talks about Barry Bonds. Dan (again) has nothing to offer. (Did you know Barry Bonds went to the same high school as Tom Brady? Or that Barry's middle name is "Lamar"? You cannot get this insight anywhere else, people).

Dan then moves closer to home to talk about the Red Sox division lead. He assumes that people must be panicking and is glad that he is away from it all. In all the fear mongering Dan misses out on some key points. The Red Sox have been playing well lately while the Yankees picked up two games by going 5-1 against KC and Toronto. Also, the Yankees schedule changes dramatically starting Friday when they open up in Cleveland. Lets see where the lead is at the end of August when the Red Sox and Yankees meet again.

  1. I forgot this shot at Curt Schilling/mistake:

"Blowhard Schilling hasn't had much to say about Barry since his infamous "there are good people and there are bad people" diatribe on his radio gig in early May (Schilling apologized to Barry the next day).

Dan must have missed when Curt said this on HBO's "Costas Now":

“If someone wrote that stuff about me and I didn’t sue their (butt) off, am I not admitting that there’s some legitimacy to it?”

  2. It shouldn't be ignored that apparently Dan can't write his own jokes either. He says "Why not just see if Cooz wants to lace 'em up one more time?". However, Edes attributes that to Jerry Remy in his article.

And this "My favorite transmission was a photograph of a rearview mirror with a Yankee logo stenciled into the glass. The horror." that pic has been up and down on Dirt Dogs for months now.

  3. I take it Shank is positively rooting for the Red Sox to blow the lead and miss the playoffs.

  4. The Red Sox had a 7.5 game lead in the division on July 20... since then, the Yankees have been playing lights-out against the soft underbelly of the AL and yet have only picked up a 1.5 games in the standings.

The Yankees will need to do better than that to make up a six game lead the rest of the way.

  5. not to mention the Sox have the largest lead of any division leader in baseball.

  6. The Yankees aren't going away. We peaked very early in the season while the Yankees had awful luck for a few months. Their pythag winning percentage has been saying for months that they were getting unlucky. This isn't a sox collapse; it's karma and the mfy are finally getting their breaks.

While I still think the Sox will win the division, simply saying "we have an X game lead and that with them getting breaks and us getting really unlucky therefore don't worry" is just stupid.

  7. Not to mention that Eric Gagne, for one night at least, began breaking out of his slide.

  8. I'm a red sox fan, but not a yankee hater. I think the yanks
will finish first this year. An
amazing comeback due to great hitting. Unfortunately they will score against the Red Sox, while the RS have been leaving lots of men on base. They don't have the
ability under pressure as the yankee does.

  9. Barry Bonds' middle name is Lamar? I thought his middle name was Ben-Dover.
