Enjoy the game from the bar, Dan? Because this trip down Nostalgia Lane that you are trying to pass off as a column was in the can long before Game 1 started.
And yes, there are many '67 Red Sox references sprinkled in, for no apparent reason.
Every reference to history is not a "trip down Nostalgia Lane," especially when they involve a World Series featuring the same two teams as appeared in a World Series 36 years ago that came as one of the cities was about to self-destruct, which was the last World Series without scheduled playoff series beforehand, and which -- as was the case with the 67 Sawx -- rescued baseball for a city. Guess what: in 67 Boston had been 21 years without a pennant; in 68 the Tigers had gone 23 so the two references to the '67 Sox (and one to the '67 Cardinals which was also playing in the '68 series) are apt.
Both this post and its immediate predessor make it clear that the goal of this blog is simple: Take what Shaughnessy says, view it with eyes filled with sophomoric hatred, and try to find a reason to criticize it.
That's fine, hope you have your fun in your self-constructed sandbox.
But your lack of credibility, induced by this knee-jerk hatred and premeditated devotion to ripping every word irrespective of its worth, is laughable and has the effect of portraying the columnist in a better light, rather than damaging HIS credibility or standing among people with brains.
Bruce, the point of Chief's post was not that it was a "trip down Nostalgia Lane". The point is that CHB had most of the column done long before yesterday's game and all he had to add was the score. My guess is that CHB had it on file since the first round along with Dodgers-A's, Dodgers-Yankees, Mets-Yankees, Cardinals-Yankees files.
Bruce the main points of this blog are that Shaughnessy has for years been vindictive, lazy, and out of touch with a lot of potential readers to his column. He is allowed to get away with this because of the type of climate that exists in Boston Sports Media. Namely, that the entire apparatus is constantly looking for something to be wrong with its sports teams.
This blog is put together to point those things out about his reporting. He has made lots of money off righting articles that help to create a feeling in New England sports of paranoia and fear. It is our right to be able to point these things out and that is what happens in this blog.
You may call it knee-jerk reactions to every little word. I say that it is our way of saying that not everything has to be written like its a total disaster when it comes to the affairs of the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, or Patriots.
What an absolutely moronic post.

Now let the rest of the knee-jerk crowd weigh in.

ReplyDeleteI'm with Objectivebruce, I only wish I could say it as well.

Second paragraph: "Righting" should be "Writing"... simple error.
ReplyDeleteYou're right--Dan does pre-write columns and add the final score, especially if he has a social engagement post-game. Don't ask how I know.
